A useful fit for

Oven cooks who want a local alarm and notice before the final temperature is reached.

The main tradeoff

One food channel does not monitor another dish or the cooking chamber simultaneously.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can it warn me before the roast reaches my chosen target?

Yes. The documented local warning occurs within 10 degrees of the selected target, followed by a final flashing and beeping alert if sound is enabled.

Does it show the roast and the oven air at once?

No. The included single probe supplies one temperature. You need another documented sensor for simultaneous chamber monitoring.

Can the food probe go through the dishwasher?

No. OXO instructs handwashing the probe and cord while keeping the jack dry. Wipe the electronic display.

A useful warning while the oven stays closed

The OXO Chef’s Precision 11231300 makes sense when you want time to prepare for a roast finishing, rather than a single surprise beep at the end. Its countertop display follows one cabled food probe and warns as the reading approaches the selected target. You can organise a serving plate or check the rest of the meal while the probe remains in place.

The tradeoff is that it follows one location. It does not report every part of a large roast, a second dish and the oven air together. Choose it for one continuous food reading with local alerts. If your main problem is several foods finishing independently, a multi-probe package is a more meaningful upgrade than an extra timer on a single-channel unit.

Manual targets are the more flexible starting point

The controls let you choose a temperature yourself or work through the built-in food menu. A manual target is useful when you already know the food-specific requirement you want to follow. Check both the selected unit and the target on screen before putting the meal in the oven. A correctly measured Celsius value compared with a Fahrenheit target is still the wrong decision.

With sound enabled, OXO describes a warning within 10 degrees of the target, then a flashing display and continuing beep when it is reached. The sound switch can mute those noises, so check its position if an audible alert is the reason you chose this thermometer. A silent visual indication can be useful in a quiet kitchen, but it is not an alarm you will hear from another room.

The probe stays inside; the display stays outside

The steel probe enters the food, with the cord routed out to the counter. Position the sensing section in the part you want to follow and keep the display away from cooking heat. Think about the cable path before shutting the door or lid: a route that works with the cooker open may become pinched when it closes.

The instructions distinguish a 32°F–482°F displayed food range from a 700°F rating for the stainless cord and probe. That higher number does not extend the food display's range or make the plastic display equally heat resistant. It describes the food-contact assembly in the documented version, with its electronic body outside the hot space.

Do not confuse it with the older silicone-cord model

OXO has published instructions for an older 1158800 digital leave-in thermometer with a similar control layout. That document gives different use boundaries, including an oven-only restriction. Similar menus and the same brand do not prove identical probe construction. Check the actual model and cord when replacing equipment or comparing an older unit with the 11231300.

This distinction is practical rather than cosmetic. A replacement probe should be appropriate for the exact thermometer, and a higher rating from a newer reference should not be applied to an older cable already in your drawer. If your existing unit is the older version, read its own 1158800 instructions and review.

Storage is tidy, cleaning remains manual

The base provides a cord wrap and storage for the probe and jack. Use those after cleaning and drying, not to hide a wet connection. OXO calls for handwashing the probe and cord while keeping the jack dry; the display is wiped with a damp cloth. This is not a dishwasher-safe probe arrangement.

Two AAA batteries power the display, and the timer provides an independent elapsed-time function. Neither replaces a measured temperature at the correct position. Choose the 11231300 if a local screen, selectable target and approach warning match your oven routine. Use current food-specific guidance and rest times when choosing the target, and make a separate spot check where another part of the meal needs confirmation.
