TempTrack CORE TP16S; manual16S-V20251212 ENIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

One roast or grilled food when you can stay within hearing distance of a local alarm.

The main tradeoff

The local screen has no documented radio receiver or app, and its one sensor cannot independently measure food and chamber together.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can I hear the food alarm without pairing a phone?

Yes. The chosen-temperature alert sounds on the local instrument. Stay within a distance where you can hear it; there is no documented remote viewing route in this package.

Does the one probe read meat and grill air at once?

No. It can be used in food or to check air, but it has one sensing channel. Two simultaneous independent readings require a different configuration.

Can I put the probe and lead in the dishwasher?

No. The current instructions expressly require hand washing and keep the probe/cable transition and connector out of immersion.

A local alarm for one food

The TempPro TempTrack CORE TP16S is a single-probe leave-in thermometer with a local display and a chosen-temperature alarm. It makes sense when the task is to follow one roast or grilled food and you can remain close enough to hear the instrument. There is no app or separate radio receiver to configure in this documented package.

The current manufacturer page also notes that packaging may use the previous ThermoPro name. Match the TP16S model and supplied instructions rather than treating a change in branding as proof of different probe capabilities.

The target belongs to the food, not the timer

You can choose a preset or set a numerical target yourself. The local alarm sounds when the probe reaches that selected temperature. The timer is a separate reminder and can be used whether the thermometer is operating or not.

That separation helps when coordinating food and side dishes, but neither function decides the correct endpoint. Choose the temperature from current guidance for the actual food and preparation. A finished countdown does not establish that the center has reached it, and a probe reading only represents the place where the sensing tip sits.

The probe goes in; the electronic body stays out

The current instructions describe placing the sensing tip at least two inches into the thick part of the meat, away from bone or gristle. They leave the display outside the oven on a stable surface and warn against placing it on a hot surface. The magnet and stand are positioning aids, not heat protection.

Plan the cable route before closing a door or lid. Do not crush the steel mesh, expose the lead to a heating element or let the probe touch flame. A cabled setup can remain in the food during cooking, but the outside electronics still need a suitable cool position.

One probe cannot provide two independent readings

The TP16S has one socket and one supplied sensor. Moving it into the chamber air turns it into an air measurement; it does not retain an independent internal-food reading at the same time. If both readings are important during a smoker session, choose a configuration with the necessary separate sensing points.

The manual also distinguishes internal-food accuracy from hot-air use. It gives a looser accuracy statement for air readings above 200°F. That is a reason to identify which temperature you are measuring, rather than treating a large measuring range as proof that every use has identical performance.

The backlight helps you check the local screen

A one-touch backlight is useful in a dim kitchen or near the grill. The instructions say it turns off after ten seconds without a button press and flashes with an alarm. This helps make an occasional check visible without leaving the lighting continuously on.

It does not extend the reading to another room. If you need a number on a receiver or phone, that is a different viewing requirement. Being able to hear a local beep through an open doorway is not the same as a supported remote monitor.

Heat limits and washing need careful reading

The instructions quote a high heat limit for the stainless wire, but a wire rating does not by itself specify the maximum safe exposure of every part of the probe assembly. Do not use that cable figure to justify a hotter sensing tip, connector or housing.

The cleaning rule is clear: hand wash the probe and cable, keep them out of the dishwasher and do not submerge them. The transition and connector are not waterproof. Rinse and dry according to the supplied instructions and wipe the outside unit with a damp cloth.

When this is the right amount of equipment

Choose the TP16S arrangement when one food, a visible local reading and an audible target alert cover the job. It avoids adding a phone setup to a simple cook. Move to a different configuration when you need two independent temperatures, a remotely carried numerical screen or a truly cable-free inserted probe. Those are meaningful changes to the cooking routine, not features that can be created by adjusting the TP16S timer.
